Procrastination ain't what it used to be.

By Lindsay Rizzo February 21, 2019

Procrastination used to be cool. You're out partying, enjoying your weekend with a paper due Tuesday, and yet somehow you manage to fit in a social life AND pull an all-nighter to get that sucker turned in on time. Granted, it was on a steady diet of ramen noodles, popcorn and Diet Coke... but then again, you were 21 years old.

Fast-forward to now. Procrastination isn't as sexy as it used to be, it turns out. Allow me to paint you a picture:

Finally a chance to sit down at my desk, and I realize I'm leaving tomorrow for Palomar Mountain with 25 teenagers in tow and a total of 5 vehicles. Oh dear, we don't have chains for these vehicles, now do we? Make some calls. Make more calls. Sweat. Make 2 more calls.

San Diego is sold out of snow chains - The. Whole. City.

Check weather. Yup. Palomar Mountain supposed to get 20" of snow tomorrow. Gulp.

That's OK, at least I can get my (overdue) oil change as I research more cities that might have chains... How will I get home? Eh. I'm due for a good walk. (Drop car off 1.6 miles from home.) Tut tut... halfway home the sky opens up. Minor detail: I have my 2 year old and 7 month old with me, and I'm in a hooded sweatshirt with a bitty baby blanket to shield my babes from the rain. Turns out the grumpy old man from The Simpsons was right because it actually is uphill both ways to my house, I must add.

Self talk: "I can run home. It's cold out - this will be a good run.
Well, I'm pushing a double stroller in the rain, I can't do this it's too heavy.
Shut up, Susan! (That's the name of my nay-sayer in my emotional backseat- Sorry if your name is Susan - that's for another day.)

I can do this.
I ran marathons for crying out loud! Half a dozen of them!"

"This is harder than I thought it would be. Why didn't I do this last week when my husband was home? I could have left him home with the girls whilst I sipped lukewarm bad coffee from a Styrofoam cup and really made some headway on my Panda Pop levels."

"No... I can do this. I'm doing this! Look at me!"

Well, I wish I had taken a selfie at the end of this walk, jog, grapple with the fly-away umbrella before giving up, awkwardly gripping the blanket over the double stroller, very wet journey... Perhaps it would serve as a good reminder to just do things ahead of time.

So, that was this morning.

I'm in a much dryer place currently as I prep this week's newsletter, and I hope you are too! Perhaps this has been about procrastination, or simply being so steeped in a Cali state of mind, I don't realize I'll ever need things like snow tire chains... or a ride (shoulder shrug).

Wishing you all a fantastic COZY weekend. Thanks to all those who came out to our FUNbelievable Discount Day - we had a blast!!

Until next week, keep lifting one another up, Mamas. See you on Facebook.

XO,
Linds
