If you're looking for a top notch gymnastics program, whether your kiddo is a toddler, intermediate, or ready to jump into the higher skilled classes, you will find it at Cameron Family YMCA. I can't say enough about this program, but I wanted to try and pare it down into a quick article and encourage you all to give it a go! Our daughter CeCe (6 y/o), has been involved in this program for several months now. Not only is she improving her skills and promoting levels, but her confidence is growing, she's meeting new friends, and she's getting wiggles out every minute of the class.
For burning that afternoon energy, this is your class! While she's waiting in line for her turn, I watch CeCe joyfully practicing her splits, doing somersaults and swinging on the bar next to her. There's no discipline for being wiggly in line; they're there to MOVE! I love seeing that and thought it worth mentioning.
Skills are improving weekly, which is amazing to watch as a mom. I see the way the instructors spot her hand stands, etc... and I'm able to do the same at home because of that. When she promoted from "SuperStars" to "Mini Comets," I made it clear that that promotion was based on hard work and her displaying readiness to step into a new challenge. Being able to experience her processing her nerves and excitement felt like a total growing experience.
When she started in her new class (now 90 minutes instead of 60), she came out with her head high, and lots of feedback! Although there were new skills she now needed to learn, it opened an excellent chance for us to discuss new challenges and why it's so important to step out of our comfort zone. She's learning that reaching the top doesn't come "naturally" to anybody, and doing difficult things means that it's only going to make her grow in her skills and ultimately become a better gymnast.
For the price, this place is totally reasonable. But best of all, every instructor I've encountered there LOVES kids, they are having fun, they're engaged and they're clearly invested in the success and growth of our kids.
There are LOTS of programs to fit every age/ability level, so be sure to just ask! You can also use YMCA's super simple program finder on their website.
CHEERS to new skills & an opening to some great personal growth conversations!
